It is not surprising at all because once I listened to this transcendental 6-piece record, it became sobering, all of it; Yo-Blake’s capacity to harness ingenuity in service of timeless masterpieces as the ones present in this collection- you should try it too!
With almost every track in here boasting electronic danceable elements, I couldn’t help but get attracted to “Far Away” which is quite different and unique from the rest. It has a very emotionally pulling intro that is calibrated strikingly by the laid-back and soothing melodies. Very inviting, Yo-Blake proves to be a master of the craft as he gives it a befitting vocal presentation that matches the emotional feel around the track. This is a self-conversation; from self to self and it makes you introspect deeply as you reach deep into thoughts hidden “far away” in your brain!
“Midnight Lover” is rich with house melodies and passion. The beats are melodically transcending and build through a cinematic wave of rhythms, culminating to give an ethereal vibe that is unforgettable. It is all about living life to the fullest; so, push the volume up as you move with reckless abandon to these irresistible beats.
“Take Me Down” has a striking hip-hop-flavored cadence. Yo-Blake skillfully manages to create a balance between these elements and his genre-honoring lyrical presentation- perhaps underscoring his limitless abilities.
Dancing on your own is glamorous and not as lonely as some people might make it sound; the title track “By My Own” is an affirmation of self-love and self-care. The catchy phrases and vocal drops are entrancing, and so are Yo-Blake’s own vocal decorations over the electronic and groovy beats.
There is that Latin-like danceable flavor in “Don’t Need Me!” that makes you want to dance like no one’s watching! Building on insecurities we all harbor when we meet someone, the self-doubt theme around this tune does not in a way reduce the liveliness in those sparkling beats.
