The Art of Deception is a quintet based out of Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, delivering a unique blend of progressive metal rock. Their sound feels like the coming of age for them as the ride hasn’t been entirely smooth; they have encountered multiple challenges and lineup changes along the way, but they’re still here driven by the core purpose of not only entertaining but also inspiring and connecting with their listeners on a deep personal level by borrowing from real-life topics that are deeply relatable to audiences, such as in their latest single “Despondency,” which delves deep into mental health challenges.
“Despondency” was born from that point of mental anguish and personal pain, with the band’s lead vocalist Nolan transforming those emotions into lyrics with near universal appeal.
Given that June is Men’s Mental Health Month, this track feels more relevant and couldn’t have dropped at a better time. The band’s passion is displayed through that drummer’s insane energy as he delivers the guitarist’s electrifying riffs, the drummer’s unwavering determination, the bassist’s intense energy, and the lead vocalist’s growling presence!
I mean, it is simply so surreal to watch each member present their pieces here as they showcase such an indestructible chemistry to round out this immersive listening experience.
“Despondency” also features an accompanying high quality music video that fits perfectly into the track’s essence and narrative.
When making this tune, The Art of Deception wanted to not only entertain but also create that emotional resonance so that anyone listening in and going through mental health and other emotional storms might be able to find relief and feel less alone.
“Despondency” is a single off of The Art of Deception’s upcoming EP, dubbed “Imminence,” that is expected to drop soon.
