Young Talent TommyG Brings Texas Spirit to New York’s Music Scene

Step aside, global pop scene—Katy, Texas has a new contender with star power to spare. Thirteen-year-old Thomas “TommyG” Ramirez is living proof that passion and hard work can launch you from local stages straight to New York’s musical epicenters. With a voice as dynamic as his drive and a personality that radiates both humility and joy, TommyG has spent 2025 dazzling in ways most teens can only dream of.

TommyG’s musical journey started the way so many do—with a spark in a school assembly. But what began as a shy kid volunteering to sing soon ignited into a wildfire of ambition. Surrounded by a supportive family, insightful singing teachers, and inspired by his sister’s endless car-concerts, TommyG dove into after-hours singing classes even as the world hit pause during Covid.

By 2024, TommyG had already found his groove—joining local bands, performing at community events like Katy’s Central Green and the Bobby Reed Show in Brazoria, and gracing the Opry in Alvin, Texas with his renditions of country favorites. Not just a cover artist, TommyG released his debut original single “Good Life Lovin’” (GLL) in July 2024—a sun-soaked anthem about friendship, freedom, and the hopeful feeling of summer.

The stage got a whole lot bigger in 2025. After wowing judges at a competitive audition, TommyG scored an invitation to the prestigious New York City Musical Theater Summer Intensive at the Joffrey Ballet School. For three weeks in June, TommyG trained with some of Broadway’s best, pushing himself in everything from jazz and tap to singing and acting. With his group, he performed songs and choreography inspired by iconic shows like “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Wicked,” and “The Lion King.” When TommyG was chosen as Simba, he took center stage—delivering a performance that left everyone cheering. Beyond the rehearsal studio, experiencing Broadway’s mega-shows live with his cohort offered a new kind of inspiration.

If that wasn’t enough, TommyG was then tapped for the 4th Annual “Come Together Festival” with Kids Rock for Kids (KRFK). From July 10 to 13, New York became his playground. He performed at legendary venues—The Mercury Lounge, The Bitter End, and DROM—alongside talented musicians from around the world. Imagine sharing the stage with drumming sensation Yoyoka from Japan, genre-bending guitarist The Only Bay, Chilean bassist Maximo, Gibraltar’s Aanika on guitar, and powerhouse vocalist Olivia Catalano from Long Island. Every night was electric, every jam made for memories.

Back home in Texas, TommyG’s year is packed with music performances too—solo turns at Opry events in Alvin, heartfelt performances at school (he wowed the crowd with “Die With a Smile”), and a steadily growing buzz on social media. His energy is contagious online, but it’s even more infectious live—whether he’s performing for classmates or bringing down the house in New York.

What’s next? More music, new stories, and, if TommyG’s lyrics are any indication, a future built on joy and freedom: “Don’t worry ’bout nothing, it’s just another day / We’re good life Lovin’ and we’re living our own way.” One thing’s for sure—the future’s bright, and TommyG is in the driver’s seat.
