“We Are On” by David Longoria is one of those songs that when it plays you feel like you are in an orchestra and the symphony just does not miss even a single note. This song presents itself as a dance/house/classical song all fused into one beautiful and catchy melody. “we are one” is a testament to the talents involved in making the song just by the impact it has on the listener. This song features performances from 750 Motown artists as well as international artists.
Harnessing such a massive amount of talent and delivering a quality body of work in “we are one” is no small feat. It is no wonder the song turned into a 4-year project. Listening to the 5 minutes 3 seconds song one truly appreciates the journey that music is capable of taking an individual. The song is heavily laced with the trumpet-playing talents of Longoria alongside his vocals giving it an “anthem-like feel”. Not only this but also the different vocal talents featured merge seamlessly in the song. There is hardly a voice that feels forcibly placed on the song but rather a smooth flow of various messages and raw instrumental talents. The anthemic feel is also heavily superimposed by the choir-like chants in the chorus of the song, effectively making the “we are one” slogan get home.
You can almost feel the togetherness in the song as it features various musicians that bring back memories of the all-time classic song “we are the world” by Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson. Though similar in that they both feature multiple artists in the vocals and a common producer, it’s important to appreciate “we are one” as an independent body of work that presents forth its unique talents, messaging and outcomes. Both these songs have had positive outcomes in the community-“we are the world” in ending hunger in Africa (its sequel mobilizing support for victims of the Haitian earthquake). On the other hand, “we are one” has morphed into a foundation that offers scholarships to deserving students, therefore, promoting education. Is it not a beautiful thing to have a movement out of a positive song such as this masterpiece from Longoria? This is the song that you will be humming to while having a shower or singing out of your lungs at a music festival because it has all the right ingredients.
