Lachi is a trailblazing musician and advocate for disability rights. She is also a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and the rights of those society often overlooks. Her dedication to inclusivity knows no bounds, and her efforts to create a change have garnered global respect, even earning her the title of USA Today’s Woman of the Year. She has won charitable awards, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with industry leaders and activists, and become a beloved voice for those who, too often, remain unheard. While her reputation precedes her, it does not hurt to emphasize the tremendous impact she’s had on both the music and advocacy worlds. She deserves her flowers every other day.
Lachi is also the founder of RAMPD (Recording Artists and Music Professionals with Disabilities), a creative company that amplifies disability culture and promotes accessibility in the music industry. With RAMPD, she is building a legacy that will redefine what accessibility means in the arts, helping to create a world where people with disabilities are represented, respected, and celebrated for their talents.
In conjunction with other renowned musicians and acclaimed co-collaborators, Lachi has an upcoming concert series themed “Mad Different,” a creative concert series designed to amplify underrepresented voices through potent music and profound storytelling. This project features an intimate series of unplugged concerts filmed at Amazon Music Studios in NYC, and so much more.
“Out of The Dark” is an exquisite song off of this project and one that blurs the conventions of jazz music impressively. This is the case of some of the best musicians, instrumentalists, and performers finding each other. The music speaks for itself really.
Lachi is in her element as she gently caresses those piano keys, the piano responding accordingly with some smooth wails as Lachi sings soulfully and emotively, her vocals haunting like the very echoes of a sorcerer’s chants. The song’s depth is underscored by the skillfully played cello by Mercedes, the magnificent and welcoming bongos by Lisette, and the dulcet bass tones by Caylen, the icing on the cake.
Medusa makes their presence felt with their spoken word fluidity, capturing the essence of queer pride with articulate wordplay and faultless cadence.
The track features a performance video that has quite the intimate setting, unfolding with a gratifying appeal as Lachi and her co-collaborators work in close tandem with one another to deliver something way beyond words can measure.
“Out of the Dark” has an acoustic version that is also intimate and ambient. It is here that Lachi’s soulful voice feels palpable, one touch away as the piano and cello float beguilingly, giving the song such a pleasant feel.
