Some of these lines could comfortably sit inside countless Italian love songs, yet his performance gives them the weight of personal experience. There is enough specificity in the feeling, if not always in the language, to make the sentiment convincing. The repeating “Mi piace” toward the end is almost disarmingly plain, resembling the emotional vocabulary of someone who no longer feels the need to search for complicated ways of explaining what makes him happy.
That simplicity works in “Dentro di te’s” favor. The song has little interest in heartbreak, spectacle or lyrical fireworks.
